Blog | Community | Sea Source supports MADE in Mourne

By Tom Griffiths | 28th September 2017

When Jenna Stevenson, one of our talented young entrepreneurs from Kilkeel, approached us with her vision for a creative hub and showcase space for our local artists and artisans on the Greencastle Street, we just had to get involved. It’s great to see our young entrepreneurs stepping up to take Kilkeel forward into a new exciting future. We applaud it and we are fully behind it. Jenna’s passion and tenacity is phenomenal. Her ‘build it and they will come’ methodology is brave and as a community we must back her and the crowd movement that is growing around this project to make this a success. So we would urge local businesses to step forward and support this exciting young crowd – financial donations, donations of furniture and equipment, trades – this is an excellent crowd movement, proof of what can be achieved with a bit of grit and determination.

What’s the plan?

Located next to Speers Estate Agents on Greencastle Street, near the Kilmoray Arms, MADE in Mourne has 3 parts

Ground Floor | MADE in Mourne shop

Showcases and sells locally made original gifts, home deco, artisan food, arts & crafts.

First Floor | theHUB

A creative space, networking spot, meeting place and workspace for local start-ups, small businesses and local creative businesses. Complete with a meeting room and honesty coffee shop, it’s the ideal place for business meetings, workshops and gatherings

Second Floor | theSTUDIO

Currently has a photographic studio and Ruach Music … a couple more spaces are available. The maker space.

Crowd Funded, Crowd Sourced | Under construction

Jenna Stevenson, Founder of MADE in Mourne says “We are so grateful to Sea Source for stepping forward to support us, it meant so much to have a big local business publicly backing us like this. And thank you to all the other local businesses who have now helped out. Donations and assistance, big or small, are all sincerely appreciated – please keep them coming! It’s down to our generation to step forward and do our bit to help build the future for our own children, not just cross our fingers and hope all is going to be ok. I have a toddler and another on the way, so it’s very personal and important to me and my husband Stuart. So we’re doing that. The average age of those involved is around 30.

But it’s hard to run businesses from Kilkeel. We hope that this showcase building and creative hub will help give more young people the confidence to get started and a safer incubation space to get those revenues flowing – small acorns from where we hope a few oak trees will flourish and plant their roots in Kilkeel. It’s important. There’s a long way to go, this is just the start – and yes, we do need more help – so please get involved if you can. Thank you to everyone who has helped so far. Join us at the opening on November 3rd”.
